Anniston, Alabama (WLJS) --- A Calhoun County judge has denied bond for a couple charged with killing an elderly Wellborn woman, WLJS news anchor Ed Moore III has learned.

32-year-old Walter Craig Pinkston and 30-year-old Monica Marie Shively, both of Anniston, have been denied bond by Calhoun County District Court Judge Beth Rogers in the capital murder case of 89-year-old Alma Fleming, who was found dead with multiple stab wounds to the chest Wednesday inside her home on the 500 block of South Stebbins Street in the Wellborn community.

Shively and Pinkston are charged with killing Fleming during an apparent robbery, according to Calhoun County District Attorney Brian McVeigh.

Police say the couple knew Fleming because they did household chores for her such as yard work and that physical evidence connected both of them to the crime. They were apprehended by authorities Wednesday night in Jacksonville.

Both Shively and Pinkston are being held at the Calhoun County jail in Anniston and are scheduled to appear in court October 21, the same day that would have been Fleming's 90th birthday.
